Mission 2024
Over 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ came to earth to heal and to teach. Our mission at FOKUS Ministries is to be His “hands and feet” on earth, teaching and healing in His name.
FOKUS Ministries International is privileged to serve others with the talents and resources He provides for us through the generosity of others.
Vision
Our world has become much smaller in this 21st century—those who used to be a lifetime away are now as close as a few strokes on a keyboard or phone. FOKUS has a vision to positively impact those who are struggling to live in this modern world in the midst of disease, poverty, conflict and hopelessness.
Many people want to reach out to others in the world but cannot personally travel to far off lands. FOKUS finds projects that need support, either through prayer or financial contributions. Our projects positively impact rural communities with few resources. We work with local, trusted Christians to bring hope and relief to God’s people.
FOKUS Ministries uses 100% of your donation toward the specific project you request. We cover all administrative costs and wiring fees and have long-standing personal relationships with our in-country coordinators to guarantee your donation goes where you want it to go. Our ministry is an “open book” and details are available for the asking.
Our Projects
Kiwoko Hospital, nakaseke District, Uganda
Established in 1987 as an Irish missionary hospital, Kiwoko Hospital has grown to a 250 bed facility serving over 800,000 subsistence farmers in rural Uganda. The hospital provides over 350 jobs for the local community and is supported primarily through donations (60%) from organizations in Europe, Australia and the USA.
Donations can be made in any amount and will be placed in the “general fund” of the Hospital, used for whatever need is greatest. You can also earmark your contributions to the Good Samaritan Fund which is used for paying the hospital bills for those who have no ability to pay.
For more information on the Hospital, visit their website kiwokohospital.com or visit the UK-based Friends of Kiwoko website at www.fokh.org.uk.
Nakaseke District Rural Housing Projects
“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” Hebrews 3:4
Following a mission trip to Kiwoko in 2016, Oregonians Alan and Kris Curriston, took their passion for serving others and turned it into small building projects in rural Uganda. Through financial and prayer support, they provide for the construction of simple, 2-3 room brick homes for those who have faithfully served the Lord. Recipients include dedicated senior pastors who have served years planting village churches and bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to some of the poorest areas in the Nakaseke District. More than just a safe and secure place to live, each home brings a wellspring of new awareness of the Glory of God into each village effected.
A typical 2-room house can be built for only $4,500 US dollars using local village craftsmen. This project has been extremely successful!
Donations are pooled from many donors until enough has been gathered to build a home. Our in-country Ugandan consultant finds deserving recipients and handles all the logistics of procuring supplies and oversees the entire building process.
As of March 2024, twelve houses have been built. Villagers are now joining in and volunteering to help build the homes for their community pastors. Praise God!
100% of your donation goes directly to this project. Bank wire fees are completely covered by FOKUS Ministries.
Sonshine christian day care and nursery school, Kiwoko, Uganda
The Sonshine School, established in 2017, was born out of a need to provide first-rate educational facilities for the children of Kiwoko Hospital staff members in an effort to increase retention of hospital staff. Students now come from all over the district to attend this top level school. Teachers live on campus and provide Christian-based education in a loving and caring environment. The school has achieved “Model School” status by the Minister of Education for Uganda every year since opening. Over 480 children, ages 3-9 are enrolled. A new boarding section was added in 2023 and already has 50 boarding students!
Donations can be made in any amount and will be placed in the “general fund” of the School or can be placed in a scholarship fund to help needy children achieve success through education. Tuition is $250 per year per student and includes two meals per day. If you would like to sponsor a teacher, we can certainly earmark your donation for that purpose. Teachers are paid $150 per month out of the student tuition fees.
Prison Fellowship ministry
Prisons in rural Uganda are full of people convicted of minor crimes such as stealing bread, accidentally killing someone’s cow with a vehicle, and inability to pay debts. Family members are required to provide daily food and personal hygiene items to the prisoners. Prisoners without family support must exist off the kindness of fellow prisoners. Conditions are very austere and hopelessness rests like a pall over the prisons.
Beatrice Asimah, a Ugandan finance officer at Kiwoko Hospital, has a heart for prisoners, many of which have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She and her team visit different prisons each week and take crackers, drinks, soap, and, most importantly, the message of the saving grace of Jesus Christ to these forgotten people. Hundreds have come to accept Christ as their personal savior through the efforts of this team. The team strives to follow up with released prisoners to ensure they are continuing their walk with Christ. Typically, the team spends the equivalent of $30 US dollars per week of their own money to support this ministry.
Donations will go directly to the Prison Fellowship Ministry to help pay for transportation, food and Bibles. This ministry is literally a “boots on the ground” effort!

Continuing Medical, Dental and Nursing Education
Scholarships are provided for current employees of Kiwoko Hospital to return to university for advanced degrees. FOKUS has sponsored several physicians for specialty training (cardiology, general medicine, radiology) as well as nurses who specialized in dentistry, administration, and optometry. The only requirement for the scholarships is that the recipient return to Kiwoko Hospital at the end of their training, if a paid staff position is available.
